Subtropical forest, specialized bird feeding stations

Tinamú Birding Reserve is a former coffee farm that chose to protect the surrounding ecosystem. Today, it is an island of forest amid crops and cattle pastures. The reserve has several trails and a route that takes visitors past feeding stations, with a special focus on antbirds and antshrikes.

Each morning, the typically shy Blue-lored Antbird visits one of the feeders. Dedicated stations also attract Jet Antbird, Bar-crested Antshrike, Great Antshrike, and the endemic Parker’s Antbird.

The reserve is also a good place to look for Golden-collared Manakin, along with several common tanagers and hummingbirds that visit its feeders. The access road offers rewarding birding opportunities in semi-open areas and along forest edges.
