ITINERARY

Inírida is often taken as an extension of our other birding tours in Colombia, but it also makes a remarkable experience on its own. This journey begins in the Bogotá highlands, visits Rancho Camana Reserve, then continues to the Guianan Shield and the Orinoco River. Along the way, we’ll explore white-sand savannahs and forests, seasonally flooded várzea, and river islands while looking for the region’s distinctive birds.

Upon arrival at El Dorado International Airport, your guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner and go over the trip’s key details before the birding begins.

Highlights

  • Airport pickup and transfer to your hotel
  • Overnight in Bogotá, at approximately 2,600 m (8,530 ft)

We’ll drive east to Sendero La Herrería, on the eastern slope of the Eastern Andes. This forest site is known for its feeders, where the endemic Cundinamarca Antpitta is regularly seen. After birding, we’ll continue to Rancho Camana Reserve for the night.

As we move between these landscapes, we’ll search for regional specialties such as Capuchinbird, Yapacana Antbird, and Pompadour Cotinga, along with jacamars, antwrens, puffbirds, and woodpeckers.

We’ll look for species such as Rose-breasted Chat, Orinoco Softtail, Wire-tailed Manakin, and Blue-throated Piping-Guan as we move through the forest and along the waterways. • Photograph birds throughout the tour, while keeping in mind that dense vegetation, low light, and birds in the forest understory can make photography challenging.
  • Find generally more favorable conditions in open white-sand savannahs and other open areas, where birds are often easier to see and photograph.
